well i'm not willing to travel trough all the comment pages so i assume this has not been asked ;)

let's say i'm willing to have a massive star. i go and colonize the 14th slot. let's say i just got small little cold freezing star. can i discard it and retry to have a massive star? what are the chances for massive star to born? and finally is it true that it may have more than 300 field slots?

i'll be waiting for answers :)

in my experience it is fairly random how big a planet is when you colonise it. But if you go for 4,5,6 and 14 (i think) they yield the largest colonies. The advantage to slot 14 is its cold so it yields more deuterium. But also receives less energy from solar satellites.

Those are the slots, yes. Given the value to deuterium in trade, I'm finding colonization of the 14th slot valuable in terms of both size and production output.
