Re: Retaining new players..

I would really like to see a tutorial/quest for new players with some sort of reward or incentives implemented. I was looking back through approved suggestions and noticed that such a suggestion was approved, quite literally, years ago. Some good outlines of how such a quest or tutorial might work have been provided in past forum posts, all that is lacking is implementation. I realize a tutorial might me more complicated to implement than some other suggestions, but I still think this is one of the biggest things that could be done to improve retention of the newest players. Provide a basic building tutorial based on the starting guide, then give them a tutorial on how to raid right away, and then a tutorial on how to fleetsave effectively once they accumulate 5 or 10k fleet points... Almost anything would be better than the description of fleetsave currently in the FaQ tab...

I don't see how any of the suggestions above could possibly hurt, and would support them all, but I feel that implementation of a tutorial/quest should have first priority.

On a seperste note, there is, of course, the further issue of preventing players from becoming disheartened or disenchanted with the game once they reach a certain account size or basic level of competence. This is a more complicated issue, and I am not sure there is a good solution for it, but I think it merits some polite discussion.

Knowing what to build and when is a key element in starting an account that a new player is likely to retain and continue to develop. In that spirit we have the tutorial and several beginner guides for how to build at the start of play. However, new players have a difficult time finding this information unless an experienced player provides the guide or step by step instructions.

A better option is to have an automated PM system set for the new player that will send a new PM with instructions on what to build. Once the player builds the material contained in one PM and new PM will be sent with further instructions. This breaks down development into ordered steps that are easier to follow.

Further, if a little research is done a player may be given an option of different play styles to choose from (Mines, Raiding, Fleet, etc.) and have the instructions for development along those line tailored to their chosen build.

Whoisit, consider this the last "friendly" warning you will get from me here on the forums, Since ive gotten back the majority of what i have seen you post are insults or flaming someone... I HIGHLY recommend you familiarize yourself with the Forum Rules before posting anything. If you would like to continue a discussion about a action taken by a Moderator( Including this one) you should take it up with them in PM, Zorg has addressed your complaints before. Any continuation of the flaming, personal insults or mod bashing will result in a 1-week ban. Have a great time and fly safe. - JaD

I agree that we need new players to sustain the game. New players are the bloodline of the game and without them this game will die.

That being said, I disagree with your logic about players wanting to play under the 100K protection threshhold. This is a game play style decision and cannot be any different than the style you choose. I look at this way: if I let players get past the 100K threshhold, you personally will take the fleet. Why do you criticize my game play style? I don't criticize yours. You say do the hornorable thing and grow past 100K points, I say that is a farce. :wall:
