Vacation mode IPM'ing- game strategy or cheap shot?

#1
My apologies khan, i fat fingered moving the topic and deleted your original.

Please post your original question, if you remember :? sorry!

Anyway, my opinion is, cheap shot, without a doubt. Here is my previous post:

I was in vacation mode for 3 weeks, apparently under the impression that i was safe and untouchable. I logged back in to find i had been vollyed by several hundred IPM's from two players. You know who you are, one of you at least i am very suprised at, you have talked a lot about good sportsmanship in the past. My respect for you has fallen through the floor.

So i say, what is the point in V mode if it doesen't do what it is supposed to? I lost about 15,000 points whilst supposedly "immune". The arguement of some players may be, in one form or another, "If you didn't insist on turtling this would not happen". Turtling is not as pointless as you may think, it's got me this far, i am still ranked 9th in the game overall, even after three weeks in vacation mode, that pretty much shuts up everyone who says turtling *****. Doesn't every player have the right to play the game in their own style and manner? Right now this is hugely favoring fleeters. It's stupid. Please take a look at this admins.

Is it just me, or is this game getting worse and worse by the day?

Moved it to the correct forum khan. ;)

NP, I only put in Union of Honor because I thought it might get heated and that is the only place where some flaming is allowed.

I will say that being able to IPM someone in vacation mode doesn't seem like something you should be able to do, but if it is not a bug and the designers have left it in on purpose, then it is perfectly fine strategy in my opinion.

Would you beat someone while they are asleep or injured and can't defend themselves? If you say yes, then I'm sure you agree with Vacation Mode IPMing.

Not to mention that it makes V mode useless.

No, it just makes fleets and then going into vacation mode useless. Vacation mode still protects people from robbing you of your resources. I would think it would be best to just not put it up unless you are going to be gone for more than a week so that way people still think you are active and some players are to afraid to attack you.

Think about it this way. You are a very good turtle player, the vast majority of your points come from your defences. You have some personal issues and need to go into V mode. You return to find your empire in ruins, huge point loss. What's the difference in V mode and no V mode there?

Vacation mode should be complete immunity, like it is in every other game.

IPMing someone in VM is a chicken**** way to play. It takes no skill and only a bunch of losers would even try it. It shows they're too ignorant to play honorably and are willing to take cheap shots at defenseless players to get or stay ahead. They can't take down a target that is a growing threat with any skill and are too stupid to figure out a fair way of winning.

It's something a child would do. A sniveling little spineless child that pouts to get its way. Little scumbag hits by little scumbag minds.

well this only damages turtle players and fleets are safe. I say if its a game function use it. it is not up to me to make game rules i just stay within the game boundaries. I have no problems with IPMing someone in V mode or sleeping or sick. in fact killing someone while sleeping is the best since it lowers your personal risk.
You can't stop me I'm on a boat!

Once upon a time, armies would take the field and line up in rows with the appropriate divisions, the Vanguard or shock troops, the main infantry, the cavalry or horesemen and the Archers in the back. Over time, some of those who were outmanned or outgunned realized that these tactics would only result in loss. The development of guerrilla tactics became a strategy of war. There were those who decried this strategy, but its effectiveness became indisputable.

That is kind of a fairy tale as those tactics always existed, but it is true that those who initially refused to engage in these tactics were forced to because of their effectiveness. Though you may never read about these strategies in the "Song of Roland", in reality they are part and parcel of an effective war strategy. This is a war game. The designers put it in or left it in for a purpose. If it is allowed, it is fair game.

You can argue whether or not it is good for the game. However, as a guerilla tactic to weaken your enemy though maybe not noble it is effective. If it works and its allowed, its good strategy in my opinion.

You probably steal pieces off the checker board or take a peak at other people's cards when playing poker then, don't you? Yeah. That's sportsmanship. You really pwned your opponent. You're really a top notch gamer. meh.

And Khan, in my opinion it's underhanded and dishonorable. It's actually one of the most asinine things the programmers ever allowed. Like a lot of other things in this game, fairness isn't present. It's all about losers taking chicken**** shots to garner points. It has nothing to do with a challenging game. Just little minds playing for points.
