Re: Best defense against fleets 100x your size

It does seem a bit ridiculous. I have built up to 5,000 Light Lasers, but I've crunched the numbers already and I would still get wiped out, easily, by a force even half the size of the one that started this thread. It does seem a bit ridiculous that the only thing I can do for the next few months is pray, rather then have an effective means of defense.

Have you all ever considered implementing a "war strength" meter as is the case in Cybernations? In that game, countries can only attack other countries that are 75% to 133% (50-200% in tournaments) of their power, which is determined by technological level, infrastructure development, and military size. Countries that have been around for years cannot declare war on newer countries without first vastly reducing their power, and that usually does not happen unless an Alliance war has been raging and they have been beat down to range anyhow. Which for me made a great deal of sense considering I could never, ever hope to successfully fight a country that had been developing since 2007 when the game was created. And this is critical. Without it, the new countries would literally be resource farms (like they are here) and stop playing, being unable to progress.

Seems like this is pretty much the case here. I get the advice, and I appreciate it. Will try to follow it. But it does seem pretty pointless. I don't like praying I will be ignored over somehow being able to actually play the game.

Actually if you really want a strategy it is always a good idea to mix ur defense array. cause usually the attacking ships if it is raiding are BC/BS. which do not have huge RF over defense array.

The ratio that i prescribe to maintain for defense array is as follows.

20 RL
100 LL
50 HL
10 ION
2 GC
1 PC

and 2 DOMs

if you maintain the above ratio for 5K LL ur defense array should look like as follows.

1000 RL
5000 LL
2500 HL
500 ION
100 GC
50 PC

and 2 DOMs

now try the above against 1000 BC and see the result. i am not saying its going to save u. but the fact is it just takes out all the player who were previously raiding with just 1K BC.

as u scale up ur defense u gradually shorten the fleeter pool who can take that defense down. the idea is to be prepared to handle those guys only.

also resource saving is a must no matter how big of a shell you have.

dan1one wrote:Really? Well I would never guess it... so your are saying it's the most raw power, but till die frequently... so it's the best way to protect your docking fleet? got it...

one suggestion i would make in this post has to do with your use of the term "docking fleet". see in this game if you want your ships to live to fly another day, you dont "dock" them. you keep them out in space where they wont get crashed by my mighty battlecruisers :)

i really wish zorg would put in big red letters DO NOT DOCK YOUR FLEET unless you want to lose that fleet. dude just keep your ships on a mission, but look ill tell you like ive told 100 before you, if you leave your ships "docked", they will get "crashed". not trying to be harsh or a jerk, just telling you like it is man.

of course there is a point in defense. your defense needs to be strong enough to protect your days worth of resource production from your mines. there is no defense strong enough to withstand the biggest fleets, but the point is to make the defense tough enough to crack, that the cost in fuel to do so makes any such raid unprofitable. profitability is the name of the game here dude, not fleetsaving. fleetsaving isnt really a strategy either, it is one of the main components of the game.

One thing also is that some people are just going to attack you knowing they will take a loss. However, the more painful you can make it for them the better you feel.

for example, yesterday one of my planets was attacked.

The attacker sent 1500 battle cruisers and 50 large cargo ships.

I had 1907 rocket launchers, 4300 light laser, 58 gauss canon, 240 ion cannon and 115 plasma cannon for defencse.

At the time he reconned me I had 35 large cargo, 29 battleship, 9 recycler, 5 espionage, 10 battlecruiser and 50 solar satelite. Not a lot to salvage after destruction. Before he could get there I had evacuated my ships and put resources in to building or carried them away. The only ship left was a battleship that was under construction.

So he could have reconned me before he hit and recalled. All he would have lost at that point was the deut he had already committed.

during the attack he lost 30 large cargo and 173 bc. I lost the 50 solar sattelites, the one battleship. Of my defenses that didn't come back I lost 534 rocket launchers, 1567 light laser, 19 gauss cannon, 64 ion cannon and 35 plasma cannon.

According to the reports, he left with 4.362 metal, 10.867 crystal and 157.202 deut. He or someone else managed to salvage the debris field which was 3.280.560 metal and 4.308.600 crystal.

So apart from the deut used in the attack he lost 5.415.000 metal, 7.145.000 crystal and 2.595.000 deut in just construction costs of those ships.

There is no way I would have been considered an attractive target, but, he was willing to invest those kinds of losses. So my advice is expect to take losses, cost your opponent the most you can and have fun.

yes but dont you see that was an utter failure of a raid he put on you. you played that out perfectly there. 2 things happened there with that raid. one thing is you established to him that more than likely you arent going to be farmed by him, secondly you gained useful battle experience. the raid was a failure because first off, anyone needs to know that sending those LC's vs all that rapid fire is like putting them into a meat grinder, and also the guy didnt even do a follow up safety probe to check for ninja or to see if you moved everything.

I would have one suggestion for you man. get your nanite and shipyard's up high enough to have instant LL's, and 15 seconds before his attack lands just spam them and then vacate your ships with the remaining resource. had you doubled or so your LL's, you would have taken possibly half his BC and all his LC's.

anyways, I would consider this raid a fail for him, and a success for you.
