The keyword is knowing. It does not matter how you do it. I can think of many more ways to do it.

Yes it is not. But if the system finds a connection between the 2 players, then you are short of getting banned.
It is easier to catch 2 people not in an alliance doing this than those in an alliance. If you are a cheater you would have an advantage being in an alliance. Should I mention them?
So I proposed :

And by friendly fire I mean inter-alliance skirmishes.

Tell me how you cheat and I'll tell you how you will get caught.

Here's my point: How do you nail these kind of people without maligning the innocent? I have several mining colonies left undefended, and these get attacked sometimes, for free. You think I planned for that? No. I just didn't see the point in defending planets that I would destroy later on just because they get attacked every now and then. I still get resources from them anyway.

Does this mean I'm cheating? By no means! The loophole here is that Cheaters can appear EXACTLY the same as innocent people. There is no way you can differentiate who is doing it intentionally or who is doing it for the same reason I do. You can't punish the bad at the cost of the innocent.

Anyway, I'm not disagreeing with you on the fact that it isn't very sporty to allow alliance members to attack you for free, just that even if it is made illegal, it would be extremely hard to enforce now. Saying has always been easy, it's the doing that's hard. What's the point of implementing a rule if you can't enforce it? And if you can't enforce it well, won't it be better for people to be completely oblivious of the loophole? You can't do it if you don't know about it. Such loopholes should only be mentioned to the Mods, not posted for everyone to see. You get what I mean? It's a wonderful suggestion, just that by posting this, a lot of people just realized how to cheat legally. :)

I did not want to bring this up but....
Do you send a message to the people who attack you and say "Hey I got some resources in an undefended planet. Go get them."
That's one figure out the rest.
People might say I'm preaching cheating.

Most Admins will not ban players for no reason. They won't ban for mere suspicions.
If you think you have been unjustifiably banned, contact the admin and clear up the matters.
If you cheat, you will get caught sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

Here come the biggest loophole ever, people can ALWAYS communicate through other means like MSN etc. You made a good, no, great suggestion, but by doing so you just taught people how to cheat legally; which was why I thought this post should have been PMed to the Mods, not posted here for everyone to see. ;)

Oh, and in case you think I cheat, I don't. I'm just playing the Devil's advocate here. I won't reveal so much information if I was one.

It was too late when I thought about it. So I said friendly fire between alliances should not be allowed.
We'll the damage has been done. Me and my big mouth.
I guess the admins would have to do some extra work.

PS. It wouldn't have been that great a deal if you had not been pushing the stakes. :P

Don't worry I'm sure after posting this the Admins will take action quickly. They can't risk the legal system of the game after so many people found out about this loophole. Hey maybe what you did was a blessing in disguise, I'm sure they would have placed this at the bottom of their to-do list if only a few people knew about this loophole. But disallowing friendly fire would mean no more Moon shots....

Arguing gets you nowhere. If this was that big of a deal, the administrators would have taken care of this already and you wouldn't be arguing over a loophole in the system. In doing so, you bring this topic to the top of the list for anyone to see; stop posting in here and no one will know about it.
