I've got a planet of size 517, and I agree that slot 14 seems to hold the largest planets. The reason given is that they are the best duet producers, hence they need more mines to have a higher production of metals and crystals. I am sorry I forgot the source hence unable to refer the thread here.

Also in reality it is also a common phenomena in cosmos that in solar systems largest planets seems to reside in the farthest orbits. May be because they attract more asteroids being far from the star. It's just a thought.
