Standard Universe. 1 million point protection

#1
This 1 million point protection for lesser ranked players is an extremely good thing. I agree with it entirely.

I had made the point previously that this sort of thing was needed and it hasn't come a moment too soon.

HOWEVER!

Looking at the players ranked below that level, 1 million points, I see the same names coming up all the time. Those players that will not look after their stuff, the ones that DO NOT FLEET SAVE. One in particular who is and always will be a whipping boy who has actually said to me "I haven't got the time to fleet save"!!!! I am looking at their overall scores and ranking and yes, their points are increasing. To a mostly greater degree, they are raiding more, investing their spoils in whatever they feel they should, a good thing. For the most part once again, a lot of them are increasing their fleets, growing their fleet capabilities. Excellent, I applaud that. But, all day long I am looking at them, watching their fleet points, they are increasing nearly all the time, never do these scores go down too much. Meaning of course, yes, when some of their fleets are out raiding that score drops a little. But mostly those fleet scores are increasing, never do they disappear. What this means is that they are still not fleet saving. Sooner or later they will hit that magic 1 million point score, they can pat themselves on the back, tell themselves they've done well. Then what will happen?

BOOOOOOM!

Can these players still not see that they have got protection now, they can grow, but they must still learn.

I stand to gain from them not doing this. So do all the bigger players in Standard. We cannot ignore the fact that there will be fleets sitting, and WE WILL hit them.

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP THEM?

Or, are they beyond help?

I believe they will sort it out for themselves.

The time will come when the inactives around them will be dry and the time needed to reach the ones not yet deleted will be too long. By then, the bigger(ish) ones will have the great idea of hitting active players.

When I joined Zorg I was quickly invited to one of the big alliances here. But before that I was targeted by a group of new players (an alliance called Insomnia, long gone now) as their personal farm. Without guidance or tutorials, I "created" the fleetsave (and thought I was the greatest genius alive, lol). It probably happened to most of the big players of this game and any similar ones.

I do believe that the ones able to cut the mustard will come to this and, in time, prove themselves worthy of joining the high ranked players in battle.

I believe that once players have gotten to 1 million points, enough of them are invested in the game to such a point that even if they're repeatedly crushed and sent back into protection, they would not ragequit Zorg, but, like Fuches pointed out, figure out the essential tactic of fleetsaving for themselves, or wise up and read the player guides, most (if not all) of which explain fleetsaving.

I would normally agree with you over the time invested, they would learn. But when, upon trying to instill the need for fleetsaving to some of them, the replies you get, well, it tends to make you feel sorry for them. If they do get to 1 million points, all fattened up and ready to take on the rest of the server, will they still turnaround and say "I haven't got the time to fleetsave"??

I reckon that at least a small percentage will indeed still say this.

That, I have to admit, is probably going to be true. Those players will be hit and demolished by the bigger players, and, in the worst case scenario, they might have to resort to demolishing their own buildings to get back into protection.

If the percentage is small enough, the damage will be negligible, and the issue won't pop up in the first place. The small amount of players who don't learn and refuse to learn even after they're hit could be treated as the new farms, I guess.

If there is a large percentage of players who don't fleetsave after crossing the 1 000 000 mark, but enough learn to do so after having their fleets smashed into oblivion, the issue would still not pop up, as enough would learn to make the issue moot.

However, if a large percentage haven't fleetsaved before losing protection, and refuse to learn to do so, then we would have a major issue. In that case, I would have no idea as to what could be done to help them. Zorg, after all, is based on the premise that players who need help would voluntarily seek it out; this scenario would mean that the aforementioned assumption is false, and it might require changing the game to accommodate that.

With the protection in mind, again, it's something that historically I argued for, a revision at the time of the 10k points protection. 10k was waaaayy to low, not fair etc etc etc. Now, the reverse, is 1 million points too high?

I feel it should be lower, not 10k but never so high as 1 million points either, perhaps 250k-300 k, or, at a push, 500k points protection?

Some will obviously respond that this is a self serving post, bound to happen. But let's face it, 1 million points is a tad over the top. Bring it more in line with other servers?
