Not saying even if we did manage to brainstorm a balanced ship that it would be implemented but to have an active forum that promotes playing around with these things is kinda good.
my idea is that we could use a new defensive ship...well one that worked better for defense then everything else ...except for the Rip because its a RIP after all
i'm thinking that this new ship should have double the speed of a RIP just to make it less attractive to use as a offensive vehicle
now it should have rapid fire on BCs and Lunars but also have maybe only double the firepower of the Destroyer with a trade off of maybe lower sheilds or armour or something like that...again this forum is just to brainstorm...eventually the people who accually read and respond to this would balance out from my original design.
anyways, im thinking it should have maybe half the cost to make it as it would an Elite Rec...maybe a little bit lower
this is all i got for now so ill leave the rest of the technical stuff to you better smarter people ^_^

kamikaze style (high attack, low armour, taken down in the first wave)
or
tank style (med attack, high armour, last thing to fall in battle excluding RIP's)

#3Isn't there already provisions this built in to the different ships strengths and weaknesses? LG's beat RIP's, Light Fighters (in heavy numbers) slaughter LG's, BC's beat BS's, and so on. More ships, I think there are enough of an assortment already in that department. However, the Elite Recycler, incorporated in to ALL servers would be a great addition.

#5interesting considering the damage mechanics, the armour shield ratio is a bit questionable, but my first thought it how is this useful for a defender?
A ship with high armour is only going to protect RIP's which get RF targeted by LG's... and without much firepower are just flying DF's
two possible solutions to that:
1) piercing damage (ignore shields) - I don't think this is likely to happen but I mention it again for the sake of having peircing
2) high RF from warships (RIP, LG, BC, BS) so that they act as a damage sink to protect other important ships for a round or two. (serious question: does the system allow for RF to AND from on a ship? I'd love to see a ship that gets obliterated by most things but can return that firepower for the round(s) it survives)
I think to make this work a real attacker will have to chip in to say what would make attacking RISKIER not HARDER.
Branching suggestion: new type of missile that targets fleet (say 1% attacking fleet non stacking -> 1 = 1%; 100 ~ 74% ... maybe 0.5% -> 100 ~ 40%) arguing that the larger the fleet the more densely packed it must be thus the increased damage. That gives the defender a powerful ability to spike themselves, though such missiles could easily be cleared by a pre-attack wave, thus the attacker isn't completely crippled.
TBH from the POV of standard I'd rather see more attacking capabilities since I know I can indefinitely avoid being crashed if I put real effort in, but in the spirit of this post, my suggestion for the ship and a different defensive possibility

#6well good feedback so far...perhaps the ship can take RF from every defense possible...even PCs just to make it not really to efficient to use in an attack...i want it to be a ship you use to defend your own planet...however yea it could just be used as a damage sink...maybe combined fleet of this ship and loonies would provide cover to prevent loonies from being killed
maybe lower the armour to 150K rather then 400K,...as for the missles...im afraid you lost me there XD

#7arghhhhhhhhhhh! you really don't know RF mechanics, it absolutely cannot TAKE RF from defenses if you want it to be a defensive ship

#8well, it might depend on its intended purpose. If it is supposed to be a large fodder/sponge type ship, then it might be helpful to have rapidfire from defenses as well, though it would probably need a lot of armour and shielding
I don't know a lot about the battle mechanics tbh but a ship that just increases your fleet's shielding a significant margin may be useful already. (I mean more so than battlecruirs, a lot more)

#9my original purpose for this was to provide a ship that made Ninja'ing someone a bit more easier and more of a threat to attackers rather then to attack an objective....however in the end this is most likly gonna end up being a damage sponge so why dont we start working out the numbers behind it
