The SGA came to Zorg in trying times. Many of us had been playing another game for years and logged in find that it was being shut down. This after a year of server and coding problems, heaped with promises of improvements, was devastating. It’s just a game, but we all know what kind of time gets invested into it. On that faithful day SGA Zorg was born. At it’s core was half a dozen alliance veterans, but we picked up remnants of many other alliances. It was easy to be cocky. We suddenly had an alliance packed full of top 20 players and alliance leaders.
We grew fast and I don’t know the conversations, but I know we were quickly noticed. As our members started passing out of noob protection, we were tested. Real life took its toll, some returned to our old game in its new incarnation, and others just quit. In that environment came our cauldron. Many of the new players we picked up were trouble makers and we clashed with those entrenched in the game. We were the new kids and didn’t know who to rely on but ourselves. That’s when the Phoenix Legends first came onto our radar. As revenge for a ninja against 200 hundred of his battle cruisers, he popped our moon. We would have taken those out as well, but didn’t realize you could not ACS defend a moon destruct at the time.
We made friends and we made enemies. Rumors circulated that alliances were plotting against us and paranoia was rampant. Even unfounded, fear is good in these games and we carried on. The next cathartic moment for the alliance was the 2nd PL war. In short, we managed to disband ourselves. Let me assure you, there is no better way to start a downward spiral. Dreams of the top ten started wane and players seemed to melt away without replacement.
I’m glad to say it didn’t take long for the great resurgence. We brought in quality gamers who’d never played and expert strategy game players from an Other game. As they grew we became something fresh and powerful again. We were challenged by DIE and survived, strengthening friendships already born. Then came the third war to weld us all into place.
Perception is our personal reality and for us, PL are the bad guys. Three wars, revenge motivated moon pops, defense bashing (between wars), derogatory planet names, and baiting messages, then the bitterness and rules manipulation of this war. They may be legends to some, but to us they are the lurking cancer to be burnt away. I tried to diffuse the tension between us. I offered to Pein an opportunity to put a stop to the growing sense of loathing. Instead, here we are. Hopefully it’s all a good show for the rest of the server, because your perspective is just as important as our own.
For us it’s merely a burning oven, our crucible, melting us down into constituent elements. Stripping away the weak and unneeded. If we remain at all, what is left will be the new definition of Legend.
