Allowing probes to attack alone doesn't make much sense, IMO, even if it doesn't hurt anyone, and I think it does.
Beg pardon, but probes in fact take rapid fire from all ships, and all defences

This tells me that their use as fodder has definitely been taken into consideration by developers already.

You seem to be suggesting that they should not be used in attacks at all, period.

That would eliminate fodder use - and also require rewrite of several Zorg approved player guides that prescribe probes for moonshots.

I think ace took the wrong ship for example. Mind you solar sats are not ships they are simple stationary orbital objects. they do not have any engines on them so obviously sending them out on attack wd be really weird.

The ship to consider here is Recyclers. They have attack powers shields and armor all that yet yo u cannot attack with them. the reason being they are recyclers. if you cannot attack with recyclers sure you shouldnt be able to attack with probes either.

some might argue probes are sent to gather planetary data. its a sort of attack. well if u carefully check your probe report... lemme share one here.
Spoiler:
An enemy fleet at the planet Sun[x:x:x] was sighted near your planet Moon [x:x:x].
as it clearly states that its near your planet. it doesnt even land on your planet. if it doesnt land on your planet how does it even take off those resources?

logic says it doesnt. fact says it doesnt. yet the game allows it.
it auto adjusts the % if u watch the times u will see that

also LCs have 5 times more attack power and 2.5 time more shield power than Recs.

King edward makes some mean weeds i am sure...
yeah lc would be "better" capacity/speed wise but they are just fodder... recs are a much more useful ship, and don't seem to attract attacks as much as a stack of lc's does... its FUN for minor raids whilst waiting for your main fleet to arrive...

Going off topic here, we're not talking about Recs. Because it's all about the speed of the Probes, which the Recs clearly do not reach. Please stay on topic

@chuck

Not really.
here is an example of e probe sent from g1 to g9.
Spoiler:
0:00:40
15:47:55
Fleet Mission: Espionage
0:01:25
15:48:40
if you calculate the time difference of arrival time from the departure time for the return trip it shows that for my particular settings its 45s

that same exact time shows the mission duration at the fleet menu at 100%. 45s

so nope the glitch is still there. I have looked it thoroughly in the game code and its hard coded for probes for some weird reason. I blame laziness on part of the original programmer and ze current programmers never changed it for the same reason.

Yet recyclers do not take rapid fire from defenses

I do not see probes as the problem people are making them out to be

You can't clean out a galaxy with them. The deuterium cost to that is prohibitive.
