I like the color idea but we first need to decide colors for everything then we will implement accordingly.
We are open to full scale suggestions. Like:

Allies color should be "dark green" (includes moon fix)
Your planets color should be "yellow"
When not in any alliance/relationship "white"
buddies should be "light green"

something along these lines

NOTE: Combinations/Colors are just random, eventually the combos and colors will be very carefully picked after your suggestions as well.

We can fit these changes in the forthcoming 3rd step.
