It isn't. Never has been.

Turning off your mines when asleep isn't a bad idea when you are producing more than what your defense can defend overnight.
You can just power off your energy production to save a few dozen clicks of you are not already doing so.

Are you joking? You mean that I've been doing that for all this time for no reason.

it used to be a game glitch that if u had not shut your mines down due to the solar plants from getting shut down u end up getting negative res when u come out of vmode. but i believe something around 3 years back early 2010 zorg dev team added the fix that if u hit vmode all the planets production units goes to zero. i guess u never knew they added it.
