If anyone here has played Beep, there were CONCORD Police ships, and security turrets. Only thing was, they were free. (High-security space had CONCORD police ships; low-security space had turrets. No-sec had neither.)
Therefore, how about players pay a daily fee of resources, per (chosen) planet, to have an outside security agency guard them?
It would be on a tiered system: More payments mean higher percentage of attacks repelled, and resources recovered.
I would feel safer this way; no matter what I do on my own, I never manage to destroy even a single ship. There's no "diplomacy mode" in this game either so this new feature will have to do.

#3100 other people will be against this idea.
Also, there is no need. I am the outside security, you can just pay me and I will defend you.

Moo...
Re: A HIRED NPC POLICE FORCE to protect your planets!
#4Simply put, heck no. If you really want to destroy ships, ask around and learn the right builds for different fleet compositions.
an NPC police force defeats the purpose of ACS Defend

#5Adding NPC police will make the game only worse...
No for me!
No for me!
All you need is a SickMind and a healty body.
Re: A HIRED NPC POLICE FORCE to protect your planets!
#6Leasing ships and guns? Why not just build and operate them youself? To make sure they'd have to cost more and you'd have less control. The ships would have to produce rubble and therefore create a target rather than protect you.
I haven't played Beep so maybe I'm missing it.

Outside the box? What box?
