I have noticed Istalris and klizac have gotten their names changed... Can this be done by sending an email?

The only typical requirement is:
*Around 6 months since last username change (if any)

If you are eligible, send an email to webmaster@zorgempire asking for a change, remember to mention your username and the new one you desire (Make sure it is available). Also send a message to in-game administrator. You will need to resend for certification and wait for a couple of days.

In general, we got few requests right now and we are processing. If we see many more requests it is possible to stop doing this at all or require that you have bought rubies at least once. Support always matters.

Perhaps it's an idea to have an option under "options" to change the name.
limited by eg:
once a month/6months if you want.
I've seen this in a similar game (the game where i assume this is based one, yet there GUI sux compared to this game ).

Anyway you can even charge zorg rubies for it. say 1..5 ruby's?
And it would save you the manual work.

Or maybe it could be under the menu where you trade rubies for upgrades, such as metal mine progress 10% better. I think thats the merchants menu, if I'm not wrong. Why don't you make it cost like 5 rubies to change it there?
