I don't think 10k protection is enough time to learn to play Zorg, I would like to see it up to 100k. Expedition is something I would like to see discussed here, I believe that the Expeditions should be returned to the way they were before (With the exception of the amount of resources gained in the Ecargo) I don't like how they have become "useless" as most of the player base calls it. Also A tutorial list with Rubies as Prize. Most of the approved section covers all the things I would like to see along with the Elite recycler.

For new comers they'd probably want a guide a little bit more detailed then the game help section.

Maybe older players could "adopt" younger players and teach them the ropes in exchange for a couple rubies or some resources here or there. I don't know.

But mostly for a new comer server you want high production rates on the mines, fast loading ships, fast flying ships, and so forth. I see a lot of people that go II with zero points. I just assume they got tired of waiting for resources to load on day one or day two.

Good luck :D

Excellent idea! My first thought is that to make it work players will have to time out. I'm thinking 500k points or 6 months. At that time the account becomes deleted, plus the game operators will need to kick out fakers.

Hire out the guides. You've done a competition before and you can do it again. It's not the same as a programmed tutorial, but it would help. For instance,

All about probes
ACS rules
About defenses
Offense 101
About the phalanx

. . . you get the idea

I think 50k for noob protection is about right.
Limited ruby premium services. Probably just production bonuses
Small uni to keep people packed close.

You could also allow veterans who want to set up do so. They wouldn't be allowed to attack anyone, but might act as alliance leaders to train recruits. There benefit would be to draw in new talent to their prime uni.

Just a few thoughts.

A great thing for noobies would be proportional protection rather than a hard cap on protection, which whether it be 10k or 100k it doesnt much matter because they are likely to get smashed by higher ranking players regardless shortly after passing the mark. What I mean by proportional protection is that a higher ranked attacker would have his wsa penalized by a percentage based on the point gap. I can however think of two possible problems with this off the top of my head. First, the coding may be difficult but I don't know. Second, it would have to based on General points INCL fleet or else it could be undermined too easily.

I also think that while fast mines may be good for noobs, SLOW ships are probably better as my experience in Standard tells me slow ship speeds make for a more forgiving playing environment.

IMHO I'm not sure the point thing is... "Safe" for noobs. As some want to build big fleets but need to get other things up 1st before they can. And by the time they do get 10k points they're really no match for some of the big "monster" vets out there who noobs can be stuck around sometimes, not to mention that some areas where people start have no "farmable" planets nearby. Now if it was increased it would solve this problem, maybe not so high as suggested but just a bit higher say maybe 15k-20k points.
Also, the time limit is a great idea as well! :D I mean if you haven't gotten the basics of the game in say ohhh... 1-4 weeks (given different servers of course). I personally enjoy the idea of implementing both of the ideas & when you reach one or the other your protection ends. :)

To me the answer is simple but difficult to implement. Break a universe into tiers where each galaxy is an individual tier. People from one galaxy can not attack into the next but it is all tiered within a universe if you will.

So Galaxy 1 if you will would have players that ranked up to 100k points, after 300k points all their g1 worlds are effectively migrated to be somewhere in g2.

Galaxy 2 would range from 100k point scorers to say 300k points

Galaxy 3 would go from 300kl million to 800k score and so on.

Each galaxy would be littered with inactive farms to supplement newbies and provide them with "food" to grow up.

I would make every galaxy be 999 fields wide though because I imagine things could get cramped, all of these are suggestions of course.

OH I think it would be good if ships moved at a slow speed, but buildings were built at a 2x speed and tech researched at a 4x speed. These are all just my opinions of course, kinda crazy, but who said I wasn't?
