as i look at the SB i see alot of wasted res has gone into the 'Techy' tree

lets break it down

Plasma Technology (Level 7) any thing above this lvl of tech is pure wasted resources better served in your building

Plasma causes huge damage to objects it hits, This is required for the very largest defensive structures.

nothing in there that says makes your bombers or plasma cannons hit stronger

Laser Technology (Level 12) once again once battlecruiser is unlocked there is no value additive to research this any further

Hyperspace Technology (Level 8) once IGRN is unlocked this tech no longer has any value to increase further

Ion Technology (Level 5) thats right only lvl 5 to unlock plasma Technology..lvl 6 n above wasted res

so what does that leave..lets move on to things that do have value..but before we do lets smash another theory

Expedition Technology

the difference between you with 1 and your neighbor who has lvl 2..NOTHING but at lvl 3 he gets to send out 1 more mission than you...

Expeditions are made possible by adding research modules onto every ship type.

nothing there saying with each lvl expeditions are safer better chance of returning etc etc
all it does is every 3rd rank of upgrade is add the ability to send more expedition missions

next grouping all have value to keep rising and order is not the way it has to be done..but if you want to raise the fore mentioned items because you have to much res than i'll be happy to take it off your hands free of charge

Computer Technology
Espionage Technology
Weapons Technology
Shield Technology
Armour Technology
Combustion Engine
Hyperspace Engine
Impulse Engine
Intergalactic Research Network
these are the only techs worth advancing

and although there is talk that 2 will be needed for a potential
Graviton Technology lvl 1 is all that is needed to unlock Death Stars

And now for the Mining aspect..there becomes a point where the cost to upgrade is pointless..UNLESS..you plan on playing for years..we will use just 1 example..in which imperial support is a part of it

Metal Mine (Level 40)
Produces metal, the main constituent of buildings, ships and defenses.
Resources Needed : Metal: 663.439.939 Crystal: 165.859.984
Construction Time : 05h 47m 05s

Daily Weekly Monthly
Metal 3.268.248 22.877.736 98.047.440

we won't even break down the time to get to this point..it will take 3 months and 10 days BEFORE a net profit is seen from this 1 upgrade..that didn't include lvl 39,38,37 etc etc and the power plants needed to power them add into the cost
-45.260 energy lvl of the 40 metal mine.
Than to reach the next upgrade will take 6 months and 21 days..with imperial support running the whole time before that planet reach's a point it can upgrade that 1 mine to the next lvl

and that will take your hourly production from 135.777 to 153.088 at 17k n change upgrade that will get you on the way to needing the 1.3 billion metal needed to upgrade to the 42 which would take you 13 months before it seen a net profit from that upgrade

Turtles..well..think we know what i think of them...

Fleeting high risk high reward scenario but is the fastest way to advance all the previous mentioned aspects of game..requires a lot of patience and protection of whats built..and wise use of said built ships as going backwords even 1 ship is just that going backwords.

You really only need one.
Meh, you only really know which one is for you when you've tried them all. Personally, i have been the best turtle AND the best miner in the game and also having reached 3rd biggest fleet.

After all that experience i can wholly say that mining is for me. It may even be a lazier play style than turtling, but hell, it most certainly pays off and gives you a solid ranking at the same time. I make more res daily than most people i know who invest in fleet. I love it.

well, all said and done I think the only thing that really matters in this game is points, who is number one. Then I would say, who is number one in each category. That is generally how it is looked at, and I dont think anybody ever said, yeah he's number one, but his net profit isnt good.

Some people want to advance in position on the SB, but dont have the time to spend saving a fleet, so turtling or mining, or teching is the way that suites them best it would be really bad for them to change suite just to please the general conseptions of others.

But if you have the ability to have your Zorg rubies doing a ton of work for you and others doubling up on your acccount to keep it running 24/7 or a strong and aggressive group of ppl to back you up, you will definitely reach No.1 faster that way.

you totally missed the whole point of that exercise..didn't say don't do it..but if you are put it where it is gonna benefit you..what point is there in having ion tech lvl 18 when it is useless at 6? put it in 1 of the other 9 that have value additive
nm feel like i am talking to a wall

I seriously doubt that you could continually hit somebody enough to NEVER let them acquire. And I doubt that he lets his resources sit there. The same could be said about turtle/fleeting. But what if somebody else farms you for your fleet? Only difference is, no points lost if you get some resources.
