This would resonate more with me if Squirrel were a braggart *and* you could prove he'd bought a bunch of rubies. He seems pretty quiet. He's confident to be sure, but that's just symptomatic of what he happens to be.
And I think I know who he happens to be, but I definitely know
what he happens to be. Which is a different animal entirely from most of the players here. And if you don't understand what that means, it just means you aren't coming from where he comes from.
As for the cost, I just looked, before posting this. 100 rubies is 5.99 Euro, which is ... what ... about $7.50 USD? I mean, not free, but it's not terribly expensive.
