So, here's my 2p (I'm the "driven player" in this if anyone cares). I'll try and keep it short and sweet.
*) I didn't want to make a big thing of this myself because I DON'T WANT TO PUT OTHER PLAYERS OFF.
*) I've been attacked plenty in the past without concern because it was either war, I'd forgotten to FS or I messed up my FS - I never once moaned about it
*) I had about the 5th or so highest defence on the rankings, higher on my main planet to deter attack and yet the attack NOT being talked about was aimed at my best defended planet at a time there was NOTHING there but the resource generated overnight (this was only profitable and possible because RIPs from a roamaer planet were sent (that takes preparation and planning to get a moon no ?)
5) What's the point ? I can build all the defence I want but well done, you can overcome that with almost no losses because you have such an impressive fleet.
BOTTOM LINE for me is I've realised this is a zero sum game for me. Whatever I do, someone with a bad attitude can wipe me off the map for no reason because they feel like it.
RESULT I think I might leave, I'll certainly not play so much or take this "seriously" any more
PARTING GIFT I can avoid becoming a farm by dismantling my empire, and I'd rather do that than leave a farm for people who don't seem interested in playing nice .... and that would be a VERY FUNNY precedent to set because you'd end up with any empty universe for all your efforts.
FINAL THOUGHT Yes, this is probably a problem with the game and I think the only solution would be something like (I saw this suggested elsewhere) a maintenance cost for fleets but that might unbalance things in other ways so who knows ....
PRE-EMPTIVE FOLLOW-UP: YES there was a s**t load of stuff left sitting for the second wave of attacks, but by then I'd pretty much concluded the bottom line for me and so couldn't be bothered worrying about it any more and hadn't got round to "offering myself up to someone I like" for slaughter as there are other capable of wiping me out, they just aren't that way inclined.
Anyway, that's it for me, as always I have far more important things to be concerning myself with.
Re: Union of DISHONOUR
#12Sorry to see you go FW. Not a newb this time, but alas, as normal a shortsighted bash as there ARE POINTS TO BE HAD!!!! You are not the first, Sabina, Guy, Tomarrow, to name but three, but also the newbs that I can't remember the names of, but there are plenty. Oh, what was that I just saw, ah yes, tubleweed, blowing across the empty and inactive systems, as there isn't much else left now. Good luck FW, with whatever you do in the real world, good people always succeed.

#13"The world is like a forest inhabited by wild beasts. Some people- wolves, tigers-people, people-lambs, people- gazelles.
Wolves eat lambs, tigers eat gazelles. And what more natural than that? Wolf and tiger hunters, gazelle and lamb - victims. Woe to the naive and not sagacious .. "from" Widow Count de Rankon "Dubois

Re: Union of DISHONOUR
#14i agree, big fleets need to be balanced out a bit, since depending they may not need to fs all of it lol
its not just about how much defense you have. if the hit is profitable, then they will launch. rips are particularly good for this since they are strong, though in standard they usually take forever to arrive. from what i have seen that was hardly enough to be just your resources generated overnight. anybody would have been happy to make that hit if they had sufficient firepower to do so, we are talking quite a lot of resources here.
as far as i can tell, all that happened on your end was that you arrived after your fleet did, when a certain player was active. simple as that.
if you think you have it tough, go to extreme, and watch the big fish pop moons of those just out of protection. i dont see very many people there complaining, you know?

RL has been a b****. maybe for once I can stay around long enough to make a name for myself...

#15It will be a pity to see you go FleetingWhisper,
You have a fair point that the game is not suited to you, I've considered the possibility of being levelled to the ground before.
My conclusion: let them come.
My defences aren't to keep me safe from attacks, they are to ward off smaller players.
There could be many profitable attacks before I log on to see what has become of my account, my fleet may even be taken, but at that point I have a purpose again, a vendetta to accomplish, I would ALMOST trade my fleet for such a purpose. (I'd gladly trade the non-raiding half at least)
I suppose my view is tainted considering the side that I'm on presently, but waaay back it was similarly unbalanced with Dr-J at the top, and when silence/symbolseka decided to quit that left me pretty exposed to such an attack, nevertheless, I was active enough to avoid .. most .. RIP attacks should they be launched, I was stung once pretty bad through an uncommon occurrence during the day, and non-RIP attacks are either expensive LG attacks or vulnerable to RIP counters.
Long story short, it's true that players with reduced activity are not suited to this game, while I currently fit into the lower activity category, I have been in the high activity category and can return there if there is action.

Re: Union of DISHONOUR
#16Keeping players in the game, as we are all lambs, perhaps that "suggestion" if that's what it was, as we seem to be waxing lyrical instead of commenting on the initial point is a very good point. If we invite Wolves, Tigers Gazelles etc, perhaps they might stay in the game? But I fear that any of those species might have problems, clawed creatures, ungulates might have a problem with the keyboard or keypads. Even the mouse, if you use one could potentially provide a problem? Or, in addition to those other species we could indeed invite mice, or "mouses"?? Back to the point, how, when it seems that Standard is fast becoming a desert of inactives and v moders, do we KEEP PLAYERS IN THE GAME, when it seems we are intent on destroying the player base? And, as they say,
"The wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is Tiggers are wonderful things
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs
Theyre bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!
But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is You're the only ones, You'reeeeee the only ones!"
Richard M. Sherman, with the lyrics and idea by Robert B. Sherman. "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day!
As we seem to be referencing great literary works and quotes.

Re: Union of DISHONOUR
#17Well if we are quoting classics let's stick to the genre (though maybe not the classics, depending on your point of view): "The universe is a beautiful place, full of wonders. And it wants to kill you"
Now "the universe" has a name, and it's not Dr-J. He was one of the people who clobbered me in the past and all was well because it didn't seem pointless (yes, I like irony .....) so I took his advice and carried on.
Again, get over the "combat reports available" hits people have probably seen and got bored of. YES I had a lot of res because I'd decided I couldn't care less by then. It was the abandoned attack (due to message causing fear of ninjas probably) when that res WAS NOT there and neither was there ANY FLEET that made me leave the fleet and res sitting for the later attack that did hit, because you know, I'd decided I there's more to life than bothering with zorg ....
Anyway. I hope this is my last comment on the subject. Life has far more fun things in it to draw attention.

Re: Union of DISHONOUR
#18Goodbye FW. Good luck. You are just another statistic now I'm afraid, bashed out of the game for points. Excellent idea in these times of dwindling player numbers. Perhaps one day, these players responsible will be the archetypal "Billy no mates". Alone in a game, all the inactives deleted, no one to take their places. Then think, "duh, why am I the only player in the game??" Even then, I'm sure they will still be too stupid to work that out.
Re: Union of DISHONOUR
#19Also:
"When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea."
some bollocks that Eric Cantona said some years ago.
(Relevant, don't really know, but as some like to talk about their furry friends, I thought it might have a connotation to what they're talking about? So, animal kingdom included, again.)

Re: Union of DISHONOUR
#20You cry like little children! Someone is to blame for your incompetence!
What is Union of DISHONOUR? I'm probably the most honest player here! Let someone tell when I'm lying.
If FW left resource and fleet on the ground, who can say honestly that it would have not taken them?
FW is not one of the smartest players. It's been a matter of time that it happened.
I do not expect a mediocre player to understand what is profit and what is not profit. Well every happened to him to attack without profit, but this case was not the case.
This topic is a misunderstanding. LOL
