Can anyone explain to me how alliances work? I don't understand ranks in an alliance.

A lot of alliances don't have ranks. Some have ranks so that loser players can feel superior over n00bs.

I disagree with slash on the whole ranks thing. Done properly it can give a sense of achievement within your alliance and gives new members something to aim for

i disagree, that is a communist view and without rank then no one can stand out. There is nothing to work for as everyone is the same.

everyone works for themselves and for the alliance. if i did not trust someone i would not have them in my alliance

i dont disagree with that point, in fact i respect that. but i think there should still be ranks in the alliance made by how many points you have

I am not superior to someone in my alliance because i am the highest ranked or have the biggest fleet. We are a team and there is no competition between us its all about getting the most out of this game as possible. I am sure that a massive alliance like AZG or what ever has ranks and people being impressed at the high ranked players but it is all about how effective you are at the strength level you have.

Personally i base ranks not no points achieved but on a combination of level of activity, and a members actions. Those who work primarily for themselves only get limited powers, whereas members who help others with resources and ACS defend get full rights and leadership responsibilities. Promotion is based on merit not strength.
