How come when i probe some people, it shows only the resources they have. But when i probe other people, it shows what defences they have, what levels there mines are etc.
Is it because they have something i dont?
do i need to upgrade my espionage tech higher?

Yes you do. If someone has a higher level tech in Espionage, you will see less in your reports. Upgrade your Espionage to have a better chance at seeing a full report.

Or you can send more probes to make up for the lack of in tech.

There are two ways.

1. You can create a custom mission from the Fleet screen selecting the number of probes and desired target.

2. You can go to "Options" under "Player Menu" and you will see an option that allows you to dictate the number of probes sent when you click the Espionage button on the Galaxy screen.

In a related question, I saw in a different thread that for each level higher in esp. tech a player has than you you need to send 3 more probes to get a report. My question is how many probes do you have to send if your tech is higher but only by a level if you want a full report?

Example I have tech 9 and when I probe someone with tech 8 I get a partial report.

I know I could invest the time to figure it out on my own but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to. Sorry for being a lazy pain

If you have a higher tech, then you see the entire report.

My example was not made up when I probe players with tech 8 and I have tech 9 I only get a partial report

and sloth, he is talking about me. he probes me. he's telling the truth. i have level 8 espionage.
