I see under the technologies page there is a certain amount of research that is needed for certain tech items (like the highest Impulse Engine requirement is lvl 6 for bombers). Is there any benefit for raising these techs higher than the max that is on the tech tree page or is it just a waste of money? If there is a benefit, what is it for each one of them (other than energy tech, which improves fusion plants)?

EDIT: Also, what are the drawbacks to not having enough energy?

Espionage Technology-upgrades are always beneficial

Computer Technology-upgrades are always beneficial

Weapons Technology-upgrades are always beneficial

Shield Technology-upgrades are always beneficial

Armour Technology-upgrades are always beneficial

Energy Technology-upgrades do nothing

Hyperspace Technology-upgrades do nothing

Combustion Engine-upgrades are always beneficial

Impulse Engine-upgrades are always beneficial

Hyperspace Engine-upgrades are always beneficial

Laser Technology-upgrades do nothing

Ion Technology-upgrades do nothing

Plasma Technology-upgrades do nothing

Intergalactic Research Network- upgrades are beneficial AS LONG AS you have a number of research labs equal to or greater than the level of this tech

Expedition Technology-upgrades are beneficial AS LONG AS this tech does not exceed computer tech

Graviton Technology-upgrades do nothing

Wait, so energy tech doesn't help with the fusion reactors like it says in the formula on the building page?

besides allowing the expadition techonology to upgrades, does the computer tech do anythinh else?
