Planet Fields

My first planet I started has only 176 available fields...I didn't realize that was small until I colonized another planet that had over twice the fields available. Should I stop researching and building on my main planet that I started with due to the size...I am kind of bummed if that's the case...a waste of resources and time :/

If you're first starting out, it's okay to have a small planet as a "feeder" to a nearby larger planet. You can always destroy the planet later on in the game. Get your use out of it and move on. 176 fields is a lot of resources early on. In a few months, you won't hesitate to abandon it for a larger one.

So should I continue researching new technologies on the smaller planet...or just stop with this planet and make another planet my main one that is much larger? I guess that leads to another question. How much do you research on colony planets? The bare minimum and just collect on resources, or to a certain level for defensive reasons? Thanks!

I had the same problem keep on researching and building but you will want to move in a couple months. use fields to shipyard and research and use colonies as the resource supplier, and built defenses store resources ect

Pick a large planet to establish higher level Research Labs. Try to pick something in the outer galaxies since eventually you'll be shipping large quantities of resources to gain higher levels of research. You will eventually use the IGN network- linking your Research Lab levels on different planets- to speed your research times so if you've already built a lab on your small colony, don't sweat it.

Is it possible to drop your starting planet (home planet) or do you have to keep that one.I know you can drop any of the others. On other games sim to this you HAD to keep you home plane (that was the only one you could not drop
