Number of Ships vs Defense

Is there a general rule of thumb on how many ships it takes to destroy defenses? I'm thinking with the battleship as the base... in other words like 1 battle ship to 5 rockets or something or 3 light lasers... etc. etc. I'm sure that's way off but I really don't have a firm grasp of the battle system yet.
