no if you have lvl 2 IRN and 2 lvl 12 research labs it treats the 2 labs as one lvl 24 lab from what i gather

i haven't bought one over lvl 10. the nanite speeds up both building and ship production the only thing is i have continued to upgrade the shypyard since i can never get the ships out fast enough. its very worth it and its a must if you want ot compete and spend your money. at a point buildings take days to complete
