#3After level 10, energy tech has no other effect in the production of energy. A bug in the game that the dev team chooses not to fix because they believe it will help out stronger players more than newer players.
As for your question, it really depends on the planet as to what you want to build on it for energy.
Fusion reactors, are more of something to build when you miss calculate your energy consumption and go into the red because, when you get past a certain level, they become quite expensive (for how much energy they put out, but from level 1 they produce a lot of energy (For the price.)
Solar plants are always the backbone of a planet, but get expensive quickly. On one of my planets, the next level for my solar plant cost 10 million metal.
Solar satellites are made more useful on warmer planets. The hotter it is, the more energy they produce, but are easily destroyed by every ship (When rapid fire is implemented) Very useful when you have a warm planet that also serves as a turtle shell.
