This is to raise awareness so that there can be less conflict in this world. I am conveying this message because I have learned today that one of my friend is being laughed at for having a beard in a non-muslim country. the circumstance is raised alot of media propaganda against Muslims. I will ask for your views (only constructive views on this so plea to moderators remove comments which are not constructive)
In case religious believes are tabooed is the concern i will understand if this message gets blocked.
"I am a Muslim"
In a congregational Friday prayer in the Takwa Mosque in Dhanmodni the Imam said, being a Muslim has a responsibility of portraying yourself as the image of Islam to others. What it means is that we are living posters billboard walking talking breathing canvas boards of Islam, each and every one of us who call ourselves Muslim.
I cannot say I am Muslim that way, I always wish I was and am but I am failing all the time. Being a Muslim teaches me to be compassionate and caring to others, it means to be able to share your thoughts to others in a more civilized way. To make it comfortable for others in neutral environment, a functioning community.
What I am talking about here are the social duties of a Muslim. Moderation is the life style hence living within limitations and boundaries to make better provisions for others comes naturally. The appearance of a Muslim is itself a way of moderation and simplicity. A beard is a mark of wisdom, a fully clothed attire is a way to project sobriety. I as a Muslim should have clear understanding of my believes and will project them in more constructive ways so that it is easier for others to understand them well.
When conflict raises communication is the key cause it is the moderate way. When communication fails, I should stand against oppression. But to do so I shall be clear headed as well.
All of the above is how a muslim should be. and give benefit of doubt that most muslims think that way. The ppl you read on media are not the entire image of a muslim. If you can not accept what i believe it is your problem not mine. Cause I have accepted you and came to live along side you.
So to all my non muslim friends do not think of terrorist the moment you see a bearded brother or veiled sister. learn first why they are presenting themselves this way first then try to see if your ridicules are justified or you are just being something less than human.
Re: I am a Muslim
#2My parents are Christians, so i have been brought up that way... My parents-in-law are Muslims, so my Wife has been brought up their way. But we love each other and the in-laws have never made an objection of each others religion. Where i live (Suriname), we are very tolerant of each other.. Muslims, Christians,Hindus,Jews and all others live peaceful together. In that aspect you could say that our country is Utopia.. We have the biggest Synagogue and Mosque right next to each other and there has NEVER been anything but mutual respect among those who attend services there. In fact, a lot of Jews and Muslims have become very good friends. I just wish it could be like this around the world.. All those Muslim and Christian extremists are making this world a bad place to live in...As for the Synagogue and Mosque located right next to each other, here's a link - https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/imag ... #3True, its just a stereotype...like blonds are stupid, asians are smart, black people rob people, etc... They are just misconceptions that are based on judging a whole group of people based on one or a few people.
Re: I am a Muslim
#4Hey spy, is that like chain message you pass around? No offense meant. Just wondering if... nevermind.
Never seen much moral difference between a christian and a muslim. Just the looks I guess. :p
I think people just don't trust people they don't understand. And since every person is unique, no one will ever truly understand another person.
I've been trying to find my faith, and guess what? I found it in a game. XD "To exist in rational faith, and in faithful rationality, to a new age of enlightenment."

#5I was raised Christian as well - nondenominational. The way I see it...Same God, same love. If we can't get past differences, then we need to keep our words to ourselves. The world doesn't listen to that most of the time though, sadly...
I must say I'm very impressed with the acceptance of this community that we can go so far as to speak of these things publicly on our forum and handle it with such respect. Thumbs up.

Oh wait.

#6We only have to wait until a mod who will close the thread and say "Religious debates are prohibited in the forums. I'm just doing my job.
I think that will lead to more isolation. I said every person is different but isn't there a common ground? Do we need a WW3 or another 9/11? Or are we all bound for hell or whatever there is after life. XDLightning wrote: If we can't get past differences, then we need to keep our words to ourselves.

Re: I am a Muslim
#7I suppose I said it too harshly. I meant where negative comments are concerned. The whole "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" type thing.
I don't think this is a religious debate...this is about treating people as people. Not about who is right or wrong. Hence why it is still open.
And-me? Drink? Never!
