"You will do no such thing, we will bring him to you. As a gesture of goodwill, we will also restore his companion. You will back off 5 klicks, then power down your engines and wait." Eliphas ordered the link shut off again, and sent an impulse to Throk Mak Taur as he watched the fortress reverse through space ahead of him.
Alexin's shivering form was dragged off the table he had been lying apon, and dragged through the corridors of Mak Taur's battleship collective. He began to mutter some question, but was bludgeoned into unconsciousness. AAs his escort entered a hangar, hexar was dragged through a second door, and ahead of them two combat servitors marched down the ramp of a small dropship. The servitors stood aside, and hexar and alexin were carried into the ship, being secured into the alcoves the exiting servitors had vacated. Outside the ship, a small collection of corvette and light frigate analogs assembled, and the dropship took off. Joining the group, it swung out of formation with the rest of the fleet. Around them the main fleet Jumped away to a new location, as their old one had been discovered. The dropship and its escort Jumped to the splinter fleet. As they reverted to normal space, a slight opening in the splinter fleets lines formed for them, and they passed through.
On his viewscreen, Sagret saw a series of dark shapes leaving the ranks of the fleet where his radar showed Alexin to be, and launch fighters. The fighters formed up in an escort formation round the dropship and their parent vessels, and as the group neared the fortress a hangar door opened. The group proceeded forward and at half a klicks distance the half a dozen corvettes and two lt frigates engines flared as they halted their acceleration. The dropship continued onwards with a squadron of fighter-servitors arrayed around it. At 100 meters ten of the fighters halted, and the remaining two, position at exactly 90 degrees to either side of the dropship continued into the hangar with it. The dropship and fighters activated their repulsorlifts and smoke billowed through the hangar as they kicked their engines on low power to slow their acceleration. The two fighters hovered slowly after the dropship, sensors scanning the hangar for any threat, and taking detailed analyse of the ships present there. The dropship headed towards a small reception committee, arrayed near a open bay that was lit up in lights. The dropship set down as the two fighters continued to hover above, weapons mounts powered and ready. The dropship itself bristled with numerous remote turrets of various calibres, from anti infantry to anti tank, all capable of attacking ships in space. The front ramp descended towards the committee of guards, medics and officers gathered at the top of the bay. Thirty combat servitors marched down the ramp, and arrayed themselves in 3 ranks either side of it. Hexar and Alexin were carried down in the arms of two more, their weapons slung over their back, and a tall Independant. A further 18 servitors followed them. The Independant, an armoured servitor commander, marched forward with the two servitors carrying Alexin and Hexar. He carried no weapon, but mounts were visible on his wrists, and spaces for heavier weapons were obvious on his shoulders. As he approached, Sagret stepped forwards angrily. “A large escort for two prisoners.”
The Independant looked down at him unconcerned. “You are Sagret?”
“I am
High Overlord Sagret-“
“So you are Sagret. In that case you know it is not in your best interests to question our methods. Your man and his companion.” The two combat servitors carrying them strode forwards, handing them to the medics who rushed forwards to receive them. “Our part of the bargain is upheld, in surplus. You would do well to swallow your pride, and remember to do the same.”
“Where is their armour and weapons? And Alexin’s ship? And
where is the claw?”
“That was not part of the bargain.”
“But the claw-“
“Was not part of the bargain.”
“We need that artefact!”
“That is no concern of ours.”
Sagret’s eyes flashes as his guards closed around him as the medics carried Alexin and Hexar away. “What are you? Some kind of robot? How can you not care about the fate of your fellow beings!”
“Not quite, to your second question. To the first, a Child of the Master. To the third, you seek to wipe out another selection of beings. It works both ways, we take no part in it. Our business here is concluded, you will be contacted when you are required to uphold your part of the bargain.” The Independant turned and reentered the dropship, and his servitors followed him. The dropship rose from the hangar, and turned and left. The fighters followed, and as it left the hangar, it was rejoined first by the rest of the squadron, and then by the rest of its original escort. It then joined the splinter fleet, it’s escort scattering through the fleet to their assigned positions as it entered the hangar of a dreadnought.
The comms servitor once again opened communications to the fortress. “You will now return to your own territory. You will be contacted in time. Until then, remain outside our boundaries.”
[Sorry for the WoT, just showing how cautious the Master is being right now
Take no chances and be prepared and all that. Also Alexin, consider your armour ships and weapons all completely destroyed for all intents and purposes, no activating gadgets or tracking the Master’s fleet Im afraid
Also how were you tracked exactly? You should explain that. Is ghost around? Still waiting on his reply]
